Thank you very much for valuable answer. I appreciate LazyCIS, pmb76 and sam. Then I will wait till 180 days to go.
Just to clarify, Do I need to look / take jobs only permanent after 180 days?
Thank you,
Mani
As other members have advised, until 180 days+, maintain good relationship with your current employer as if you are going to be with them for ever (don't even give an inkling that you might be planning to leave). After 180 days you may leave, but you will have to find a new employer who is willing to hire you on permanent basis upon getting you GC for same/similar job as in the LC. What you do until your GC is approved (contract job with this employer or something else) is a different matter. Those employments can be on EAD, H1, temp/permanent, etc.

No. You do not pay double Taxes.
US & Canada have a tax treaty. Nearly always Canadian Income Tax is higher than US, so you pay US taxes first and then when you file Canadian taxes you get credit for the amount of US Taxes you paid.
so ex you make 70 K and your US Taxes come to 20 K , you go ahead and pay 20K. Then when you file Canadian taxes, your tax amt comes out to be say 25 K You will then only pay Canada Revenue 5 K difference.
Only complication is Canada doesnt recognise US 401K contribution or mortgage as tax deductable, so you will have to calc Canadian taxes on gross income.

nobody complains about somebody getting green card getting in six months, infact I know somebody who got green card from india onmployment basis, the problem is people who have waited for 6 years or longer feels the pinch, because
they have followed the law just like the guy who got in 6 months , and they see no light at the end of the tunnel, and frustration to certain degree amounts to anger.
chilllllllll enjoy the system, this is how the system works, like it or not.
thanks
look I have been here for 10 years and I kick my self everyday for not getting card, if I played my cards right I should have been worrying about citizenship now :)
many of are here for good reasons of our own deed and situations which are beyound our control, 9/11, immigration politics etc. the best way to get around this either to follow some lope hole such as labor subst, L1 etc, or fight the system thru IV, or just simply wait,
complaining that someone else is getting greencard is nothing but childesh and I hate to say this as it comes from a "Highly educated" guy like who did is MS from US :D

Please don't travel thru countries that impose this ridiculous transit Visa requirement on individuals, especially from India. Ask them to justify the charges, and you would get no response from them.
So, even if takes to spend $200 - 300 more, AVOID these crook countries that charge Transit Visa. People we must send the message across. In this century, I think its Indians that are traveling the most on these trans-atlantic-asia route, and collectively avoiding these 'snob' countries would send a very good signal.
If you are buying the transit visa, your dignity is at stake. Its like saying buying insurance for a person who is poor. They dont charge for countries that are more developed. so, AVOID AVOID these countries.
I am traveling to India soon, and I am going thru Brussels not because I got a cheap ticket, but because there is no transit visa required there.
I had to apply for UK transit visa last time I went to India (air india). This time I am taking non-stop Chicago to Delhi. I agree about avoiding countries that require transit visa.

I emailed most of those email addresses you have posted with the subject:
DOS & USCIS practical joke on those attempting to immigrate legally - July 2007
Quoted the AILA article you posted.
Does anyone have the addresses for cnn? I don't have much faith in FOX news, MSNBC may be more sympathetic to our cause; Don't know about CNN but wouldn't hurt to mail them too.

I knew that slowly the antis are gaining more and more strength as a result the noose is getting tighter and tighter around us (and will eventually reach our neck). I didnt expect this fast:
Texas change in drivers license laws in last 6 months:
1) We knew that instead of the usual 6 years expiry date, they now want to see proof of visa documents and the expiry date is set to the expiry of the visa document.
2) If visa document is expiring less than 6 months, then we CANNOT get a drivers license.
Drivers license laws - Latest Changes:
1) The drivers license that all non-citizens will get will be Vertical and NOT the usual horizontal. This license looks very different than the conventional Texas DL and it also has to ominous word temporary visitor. I was okay with word being mentioned, but making the drivers license look so different from normal (vertical and not horizontal is taking it too far). I am worried about possible discrimination everywhere wherein we show our IDs.
2) Chance of Address not possible online: Previously, its only during license renewal, you had to get that new unique non-citizen card. Now, they are not allowing even change of address online! The website says, we dont qualify for change of address online as well. This means that even for change of address, we have to go to the DL office and surrender of our old good unexpired DLs.
Any inputs? Texans? Others? What have been your experiences? In other states, can you change your address online without any hassle?

What is Code 3 and Code 1 ? My Notice says Code 3
from:
http://www.immigrationportal.com/archive/index.php/t-191494.html
Code 1 is all 10 FP. This is electronically sent to FBI the same day, they run it to match thru their database to match it with criminals/persons of interest and send the results the same day (or the next) to USCIS. Code 1 is very important as it is part of your security/background check and determines admissibility for gc.
Code 2 (index+photo+sign) is for the generation of cards for immigration benefits e.g. EAD, gc etc. If you filed for EAD, you definitely need code 2 or the card can not be generated.
Code 3 is a combination of both, when USCIS wants to get a security check done on you as well as generate cards (EAD) for you.
Code 1 expires after 15 months e.g. FBI needs to check their database again. I have had two code 1. Code 2 is done everytime we apply for benefits (EAD- once a year).

Team,
I am in eb3 with priority date jan/2007 and working with EAD and 485 pending.
my sponsered employer willing to promote me with my position and i was having thought of filing a new case in eb2 and port my eb3 priority date. my company has different sister company working in different areas, can I file my eb2 application from other sister company not from the company where my eb3 is filed?
Also I have 3 years degree and 1 year pgdca plus 10 plus years of experience. I wanted to know if you know anybody who filed eb2 with 3 years degree and 1 year pgdca? according to my research i may have trouble at 140 stage?
if my eb2 gets denied, what happens to my eb3 case?
Please advice.
Thanks,
Matt.
It is good idea. I discussed this my lawyer and according to him, nowadays USCIS is very strict about it and trying to match the requirements of EB2 against the candidate's credentials. If it perfectly matches only they will approve. It will be an option for those guys with EB3 with PD past 2005 and with enough EB2 credentials, primarily a masters degree and if it from US, then great.
Please do not go into this option just by stating that I have 100 years experience with such and such company. I will say, if your are a masters degree holder (from US the best) and is employed with a major employer for more than 3-5 years, then only attempt this. Do not try it if you are employed with some Desi company. This is harm both the candidate and the employer.
My two cents worth!!!

but this is a wish list..IV has some clearly defined actions
Lets figure out the next course of Action for IV in the best interests of its members. Let's itemize each one of them and propose possible solutions. This thread is not for question / answers about individual situations but broad GC issues to be resolved by Govt/Congress/USCIS/DHS/DOL by way of proposing bills/acts/resolutions/amendments. IV must have done this but I didn't see an easy way of getting it.
First we could categorize them into different buckets such as that IV did for the forums. Just made up some to give an example. Some gurus on IV can suggest a better categorizing
Ex:
1) Labor
a) Allow one to get promoted instead fixing to of a fixed job position in the labor advt.
2) I-140
a) Allow One to file for two I-140's
b) Have freedom to change employer when I-140 is pending

You do not need a lawyer. Just make sure CIS has your correct mailing address and keep watching your cases regularly for RFEs.
In the event of an RFE, you can respond on your own most of the times. If you think it requires a complex response or if you are not confident, you can hire a lawyer at that point to respond to that RFE.
I would even say handling your case on your own is safer as I know some cases where the lawyer goofed up by not responding to RFEs. The applicant was not even watching his case status as he had left everything to the attorney and he had no idea about the RFE.
It is also not necessary to inform CIS about your job change unless there is a possibility that your previous employer may revoke your 140.
kaisersose - thanx for your input....
I am not moving so address change might not be issue......and I like your suggestion of watching the case online ourselves....
regards!

My wife will be on H1(currently on H4) october onwards...we received our EAD's yesterday. Can I still go and apply for SSN? I mean will that mean she is on EAD and H1 no longer valid?
Not simply because she applied for her SSN.
The EAD kicks in, once her employer fills out her I-9 using her EAD as permission to work inside the US. If she holds multiple jobs, then entering EAD into one I-9 will mean she has to ensure that she has all her I-9s from all employers updated to the EAD.
At this point, the H-1b is no longer used, but does not get cancelled (unless the employer revokes it). It just goes dormant and can be revived again by filing an extension. Another way is to go out of the country and return using the H-1b visa.

Gurus,
Im bachelor. Im planning to get married in another 6 months. Should I apply for I-485? If I should, can I add my spouse later to the I-485 application before I-485 is approved and priority date is not current.
You will be able to file her 485 after marriage and before your approval only if your priority date is current. I am in the same situation and confused too.
